1976-79: Caisse de Dépôt et Placement - Senior Corporate Investment advisor and member of the Investment Committee
1977-80: To represent the Caisse's interests, Mr. Arbour was elected director of the following companies: Gaz Metro Inc., Horne & Pitfield Ltd., M.Loeb Ltd., National Drug and Chemical Ltd., Place Desjardins, Provigo Inc. and Société d'Investissement Industriel du Québec (S.D.I.). Mr. Arbour resigned from these boards in early 1980.
1979: With an investment of $ 30,000, Mr. Arbour launched Alkebec Inc. which became involved in oil & gas exploration and tax shelters. From 1984 on, Alkebec Inc. became a venture capital firm and invested in numerous Canadian growth companies both public and private.
1979-93: President and C.E.O. of Monterey Capital Inc., a public company involved in industrial equipment distribution.
1980-89: Director and member of the audit committee of Consolidated Bathurst Inc., a pulp and paper company sold to Stone Container Ltd. in 1989 for more than $ 2.6 billion.
1993: Publication of a book entitled: “Quebec Inc. and the Temptation of State Capitalism”, Robert Davies Publishing.
2005: Creation of the Fondation Universitaire Pierre Arbour in December. Mr. Arbour donated all the shares of Alkebec Inc., valued at $ 9 million, to the newly created Foundation.
Mr. Arbour is also a member of the Board of Directors of Fraco Ltd., a manufacturer of mast-climbing work platforms, and of the Festival de Lanaudière. He is also on the advisory board of Geneva Equity of Switzerland. |
